Candidate cries foul over couple's arrest

A team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB), Imphal picked up Mohori of a stone crushing firm and his wife on the charge of possessing suspected Heroin No.4 powder but released later after no drug was found from them.
The incident occurred at about 12.50pm on Thursday at the firm operating at Charangpat Meaning Leikai.
The couple who were briefly detained by the police has been identified as Khangembam Robindro (50) and Ciliya of Kumbi.
As per reports, the stone crushing unit is being operated by family of Kharibam Jiban, who is contesting the Assembly election from Wangkhem AC.
Meanwhile, locals of Charangpat staged a sit-in-protest against the incident and appealed to all concerned not to take political advantage by levelling false charges.
Regarding the incident, Jiban told media persons that it was very unfortunate that some politicians are using wrong means to level false charges on innocent people so as to take political mileage and such activity must be stopped immediately.
He also demanded authority concerned to identify and book all those involved in feeding false information to the NAB.
