ZP clarifies on cycle distribution mess

Thoubal, October 24 2021:
The delay in distribution of cycles to girl students of minority community who have passed class VIII or are now studying in class IX in Thoubal district by Directorate of Minority Affairs under the Pradhari Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram of Union Ministry of Minority Affairs was due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation and technical issues in the verification process, clarified Thoubal Zilla Parishad members.
Addressing a press meet held at Thoubal ZP adh'yak-sha's official quarters at DC Thoubal complex on Sunday, Leishangthem ZP member Md Abdul Latif, on behalf of other ZP members, stated that as the number of bicycles to be distributed in the district was 534, there were slight delay in carrying out verification of the beneficiaries.
The elected members belonging to minority community have been asking DC Thoubal and ZEO to collect requisite documents from students and do proper verification.
But due to Covid-19 and schools remaining closed the verification process has been prolonged, he added.
Md Abdul Latif continued that most of the verification has been done and as soon as it finishes the cycles will be distributed in the presence of local MLA, ZP members, Pradhan, etc.
The press conference was also attended by Thoubal ZP adhyaksha Hasina Begum and other ZP members.
Meanwhile, Sangaiyumpham Higher Secondary School principal H Indira Devi, told media persons at the school premises the state government and chief minister N Biren have taken the commendable step of providing cycles to minority girl students.
Parents of one of the students present at the media briefing stated that the news report published in local dailies about students not receiving cycles has no connection with ZEO Thoubal.
The report has come out due to miscommunication and the delay happened due to time taken by the distribution agency in verification, the parents said.
