Imphal, May 24 2022:
Manipur Library Association (MALA) celebrated its 35th foundation day along with a felicitation function for its patron members MLAs Karam Shyam and Mayanglambam Rameshwar at Old Assembly Museum and Archives Hall, Imphal on Tuesday.
Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam, MALA president Kangjam Chaoba and Kakching MLA Rameshwar attended the event as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Karam Shyam thanked the government for providing a 0.25 acre land plot for construction of MALA's office.
He also said that around 90 per cent of the process for land allotment was completed when he was the revenue minister in the last term.
However, the process was interrupted following cabinet reshuffle and Covid-19 pandemic.
Stating that he has always been enthusiastic about library movement since his childhood, the MLA said that he did his best to fully implement Manipur Library Act 1988 when he first became a member of the legislative assembly.
However, he could not succeed, Shyam said, while stressing the need for a separate directorate to promote library movement.
He also said that he will discuss the matter with the chief minister.
