Imphal, September 23 2022:
Karang Island Development Organisation (KIDO) has strongly condemned the order for transfer of the lone doctor of Thanga Karang Public Health Centre (PHC) without sending a replacement.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Friday, KIDO advisor Haobijam Gitajen Meetei said that Thanga Karang, which is located around 45 km from Imphal is an island surrounded by Loktak Lake.
The village has around 1400-1500 voters and is inhabited by around 4000-5000 people.
The village has only one PHC which was established by former MLA Tongbram Mangibabu over 10 years ago but bereft of requisite number of doctors, nurses, female and male health workers and others, despite multiple requests for arranging the same.
Amidst this, the deputy secretary (health and family welfare) issued an order on September 22 notifying the transfer of Dr Johnson Moirangthem to PHC Parbung as its medical officer.
Dr Johnson has been with the people of Thanga for a long time and it is the wish of the people for him to stay at the Centre.
However, if he is to be transferred, another doctor must be appointed in his place immediately, he urged, while further demanding the appointment of requisite doctors, staff nurses and health workers, failing which intense agitations would be launched.
