Imphal, June 18 2022:
SKY Hospital has reportedly performed the first case (in Manipur) of PDA closure on a four years and six months old girl from Kwaka.
Imphal West, on June 4.According to a release of the hospital issued Saturday, the cardiac device was implanted in the young girl having down-syndrome and large birth heart defect called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), 7 mm in diameter.
Her PDA had to be closed, otherwise she was not going to survive.
In her case, a large 14/12mm device was implanted via right internal jugular vein (neck vein) under general anaesthesia, completely closing the hole in the young patient's heart as femoral venous access was not possible despite using ultrasound guidance, the release elaborated, adding that SKY Hospital chief cardiologist Dr L Shyamkishore expressed happiness over success of the new technique and advised people of Manipur and others from the north eastern states to opt for device closure of heart-hole for eligible patients if the conventional leg vein access is not possible.
