Training programme for fish farmers conducted

Imphal, September 25 2021:
ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Kolkata Centre in collaboration with Fisheries Department organised a 3-day on-farm skill development training programme for fish farmers of Chandel district under Tribal Sub Plan from September 23.ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (Mumbai) Kolkata Centre TSP project principal investigator/principal scientist Dr S Munilkumar coordinated the programme with ICAR-CIFE Mumbai principal scientist Dr AD Deo.
The programme was part of a research project to develop a sustainable farming model for the district and enhance fish productivity through farmers' participatory research.
During the programme, farming techniques relevant to local conditions were demonstrated for 34 farmers of Kaziphung village, Chandel district.
Issues related to farm-made feeds with locally available leaves, fish health management, water quality testing, plankton estimation, etc, were discussed.
A field trip to the successful fish farm of M/S S Tomba and Sons at Hiyangthang was also conducted to expose the farmers to modern fish farming methods.
Progressive fish farmer Soibam Surchandra Singh shared his vast experience and techniques for the benefit of the farmers.
The programme was facilitated by Chandel district fishery officer Jeneshing Tarao.
