Letpao calls for saving youth from drugs menace

The 10th Lilong Sports Week, which is being organised by Lilong Sports Association (LSA) commenced from Friday at Lilong Haoreibi College ground, Lilong Ushoipokpi.
The opening function of the sports meet was attended by youth affairs and sports minister Letpao Haokip, LSA working president and Lilong MLA Y Antas Khan and Lilong Haoreibi College principal Dr Mohd Raheijuddin Sheikh as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Letpao Haokip lamented that mainland India sees north-eastern states, Moreh of Manipur in particular, as den of drugs.
The youth of the state must be saved from the menace of drugs, otherwise the state's future looks bleak.
In this regard, the initiatives of LSA and other clubs and organisations to encourage health and fitness amongst youth are very much appreciated, he added.
The minister also termed as regretful that Lilong assembly constituency does not have a proper playground.
Very soon a ground with a gallery will be developed in Lilong AC, he assured.
LSA secretary Md Ayub Ali mentioned that the tournament is being held to promote healthy mind and body amongst theyouth of Lilong and to keep them away from intoxicants along with promoting excellent sportspersons.
The week-long sports meet is being participated by more than 1000 men and women who will compete in sporting events like football, kabaddi, volleyball, athletic, etc.
On the opening day of the tournament, a football match was played between Muslim Youth Club, Lilong Ubakthok Makha and Tombi FC Lilong Leihaokhong.
