Kakching, June 02 2022:
Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO), Kakching has urged the government to appoint district election officer (DEO), Kakching at the earliest.
In a release, JNGVO Kakching president Ksh Biren Singh stated that as there is no office of the DEO even after six years of creation of Kakching district,, all election related issues for the district being handled at Thoubal district headquarters, which is highly inconvenient for election personnel from Kakching district, apart from increasing expenditure of election candidates.
The organisation has already submitted a memorandum in this regard to the chief minister on April 24 as well as written to chief election commissioner of India on May 31 pressing for opening DEO office Kakching and changing addresses from Thoubal to Kakching district on the web sites of national level offices, in Aadhaar card, Electors Photo Identity Card and other documents for people belonging to Kakching district, it added.
JNGVO also mentioned that the state witnesses recurring scenes Of farmers not getting adequate quantity of urea every year, despite repeated requests to the authority concerned to address the issue.
In such a scenario, it is highly unlikely that the government's vision for self-sufficiency of food-grain will ever become a reality.
The farmers purchase fertilisers at high cost but are not getting enough returns from their crops with 40 kg of paddy not even reaching price of Rs 700 at present.
As such, farmers are converting their farmlands for other businesses to earn income, it noted.
JNGVO also pointed that farmers of Kakching are facing great difficulty due to non-functioning of District Agriculture Office (DAO), Kakching.
Hence, the government must make DAO Kakching functional and ensure adequate, transparent and equal distribution system for urea to the farmers of Kakching district to be distributed from the warehouse at Kakching Lamdong, it demanded.
Stating that it has submitted a memorandum to agriculture minister on April 21 and to Agriculture Department director on May 31, JNGVO further urged authority concerned to look into the matter to save the life of farmers.
