Centre urged to provide relief assistance

Imphal, May 11 2023:
Central government is yet to provide any relief assis-tance to people affected by the communal clash and currently taking shelter at many relief camps, stated Committee on Peaceful Coexistence Manipur (CPCEM) spokesperson Ab-dulah Phundreimayum while urging the Centre to do the needful at the earliest.
Addressing media persons at CPCEM office Hatta Mana Ingkhol Thursday, Abdulah said thousands of people fled their homes ever since the clash between two commu-nities on May 3 and many or-ganisations including CPCEM have been providing shelter to the affected people.
The clash started like to a disaster but it is very unfortunate that Central government is yet to provide any relief material to the affected people till date, he said adding that government's act has confused the people.
He then urged the Central government to provide relief materials to affected people at the earliest.
According to Abdulah Phundreimayum, many drivers and handymen from outside who did not expect the violence are now stuck in different parts of the state and government should start evacuation process to send them to their respective states.
He also said that people should exercise maximum re-straint to bring back normalcy at the earliest.
Expressing deep concern over spread of rumours which could flare up the violence, CPCEM president appealed people particularly social me-dia handlers to stop spreading misinformation.
He also ap-pealed people belonging to Meetei Pangal community not to spread rumours in social media and warned of initiating legal action if found abetting the situation.
CPCEM provided edibles and cloths for affected people taking shelter at Soibam Leikai Thursday.
