Imphal, August 02 2022:
While condemning the government's act of allotting shop plots in Lamphel Supermarket Temporary Market Shed to fatly salaried government employees instead of the vendors who have been doing business in the same area for over 12 years, the aggrieved vendors have cautioned of launching intense agitations if the government fails to allot the shop plots to them.
Addressing a press meet held at Lamphel Supermarket on Tuesday morning, a vendor named Karam Chaoba said that in 2011, the then government made the street vendors and those selling their wares along BT Road to relocate to Lamphel Supermarket.
However, many of these long-time vendors were excluded from the shop Clot allotment list of IMC reused by IMC recently.
The market shed presently has around 300 shops after a recent renovation.
Denouncing the government's decision to allot the plots to the government employees, Chaoba said that the newly repaired Lamphel Supermarket cannot be inaugrated if the vendors who ve been operating for over 12 years are not allotted the shops and deprived of their source of livelihoods.
Chaoba then urged the government to look into the matter, while cautioning of launching intense agitations if it (government) does not allot the shops to the long-time vendors.
