Mt Everest College organises Cultural Day

Mount Everest College, Senapati organised its annual Cultural Day under the theme, "Retell to remember" at its auditorium on Wednesday.
Delivering the keynote address, vice-principal of the college Gonmei Meithu-anlungpou, explained that folktales were chosen as this year's theme as they are the oral textbooks of the past which offer social and cultural values, and for which elders/parents used to retell them to both entertain and educate their grandchildren/children.
The vice-principal also stressed that each tribe should uphold the age-old tradition of telling folktales.
"It is the duty of every student to keep the folktales alive and that's why, this cultural day is observed every year", he added.
As part of the event, a folktale drama competition was held during which plays were performed by BA 1st semester students (Maram tribe's 'Kasung and Disunga'), BCom 6th semester students (Poumai's 'Pfoupouzei, the great warrior'), BSc 6th semester students (Liangmei's '100 heads'), BSc 4th semester students (Manipuri folk tale - 'Sandrembi Chaishra'), BCom 1st semester students (Poumai's 'Kateine and Ka-jine'), BA 4th semester students (Tangkhul's 'Maitonphi & Shimreishang'), BCom 4th semester students (Poumai's 'Love story of Pou and Reine'), BA 6th semester students (Rongmei's 'The wicked step mother') and BSc 1st semester students (Manipuri folktale - 'Loushingna Shamu Faba).
Later, a traditional couple show showcasing the rich traditional attires of different tribes and of the valley was held.
The BSc 6th semester students secured the first position for their '100 heads' folktale play, BA 4th semester students finished second for their "Maitonphi and Shimreishang", and the BSc 4th Semester students took the third place for their 'Sandrembi Chaishra' .
