Human chains, sit-ins censure SoO, violence

Imphal, May 31 2023:
Many people joined in formation of human chains and staging sit-in protests on Wednesday demanding with-drawal of the suspension of operation (SoO) agreement signed with Kuki armed outfits and protection of territorial integrity of Manipur, as well as for ending the on-going vi-olence and restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.
Locals of Uripok formed human chain along the Urip-ok-Kangehup road demanding protection of territorial integ-rity of Manipur and immediate revocation of the SoO pact.

paibi groups organised protest at Malom Bazar demanding immediate revocation of SoO with Kuki militants and con-demning the attacks on Meitei civilians.
Meanwhile, denizens of Shamurou Makha Leikai and Naorem Chaprou took out a mass rally to demand iden-tification and deportation of illegal immigrants and im-plementation of NRC at the earliest.
In Thoubal district, a si-lent protest was organised by Women Force Thoubal District on Wednesday demanding Union home minister Amit Shah to amicably resolve the communal crisis in the state.
The protestors covered their mouths with black clothes and held placards denouncing 'killing of innocents', 'stop barbarism', 'protect Manipur's integrity', etc.
Speaking to reporters, Women Force Manipur mem-ber Laishram Sushila pointed out that as the restive situation has hurt womenfolk the most, the protest was held to urge the Union home minister to bring an end to the crisis at the earliest.
Meanwhile, a mass rally was taken out by the people of Salungpham on Wednes-day demanding no separate administration, withdrawal of So() agreement with Kuki militants and implementation of NRC.
The rally jointly organised by UCO, AMAWOVA and Salung-pham Meira Paibi Lup started from Salungpham Mathak Leikai, passed through var-ious parts of the village and culminated back at the starting point.
Speaking to the media, one of the agitators sought effective measures to bring peace in the state and pointed out that none can balkanise Manipur if the people remain united .
She also asked the central security forces to stop their biased actions.
On the other hand, a sit-in protest was staged by All Samaram Meira Paibi Lup at Samaram to demand with-drawal of the So0 agreement, removal of Assam Rifles and giving additional power to state forces.
At the end of the protest, the participants marched till the house of Heigrujam Robinsana of Khongjom Bazar, who died during a shootout with Kuki militants at Sugnu, to extend material and emotional sup-port to the bereaved family.
