LDA chairman inspects Ikop, Lousi, Kharungpat

Loktak Development Authority (LDA) chairman Moiranthem Asnikumar on Friday inspected three wetland areas in Kakching and Thoubal districts, namely Ikop, Lousi and Kharungpat.
The chairman was accompanied by Wabagai MLA U Deben, LDA officials and local community leaders during the inspection, wherein the stakeholders thoroughly discussed the degrading conditions of these wetlands which are closely related to Loktak Lake.
Speaking in this regard, Asnikumar conceded that the wetlands are deteriorating everyday as the previous policy makers failed to take up far sighted poL icies.
In order to save the wetlands and to frame a proper policy, instructions have already been given to officials concerned for a thorough survey of the wetlands.
As the three wetlands are interconnected, they play a vital role in maintaining the natural ecosystem as well as in the socio-economic life of the people living near the wetlands, he pointed out.
Stressing the need for joint efforts to protect the wetlands, Asnikumar expressed hope that the wetlands will surely be preserved and protected under the supervision of CM N Biren.
He also lauded Wabagai A/C MLA U Deben for his sincere effort and help in preserving the wetlands.
