Imphal, September 25 2021:
Manipur State Kala Akademi awardee Ranjit Adhikarimayum has stressed the need for preserving the art and culture of Manipur including dance, song and pung (traditional drum).
He made the statement during the Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Memorial lecture organised by Manipur State Kala Akademi at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound here on Saturday.
Presiding over the programme, Ranjit said that the topic of the lecture " Manipurgi Eshei-Nongmaigi Mingchat amasung Manipuri Jagoi" is important and well-timed considering the present situation.
Although Manipur still has a long way to go with regard to art and culture, people are well aware of the rich cultural heritage, which also includes the aspects of dance, song and pung, all of which have been inseparable from one another since time immemorial.
Additionally, Lai Haoraba festival should be the basis for any discussion on the aforementioned three aspects, he added.
As part of the programme, Manipur State Kala Akademi awardee N Tiken delivered the memorial lecture.
Floral tributes were also offered to the portrait of Rajarshi Bhagyachandra.
