Imphal, May 24 2022:
Shops and vendors in the markets are no longer adhering to the guidelines of the government.
As such, Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur (PPCM) would be inspecting the shops and the markets, stated Committee Publicity Committee convenor Laikhuram Jayanta.
In a statement, Jayanta conveyed that the shops and vendors are selling the daily essential items at sky-high prices and incorrect weights.
In addition, no price list has been put up or cash memos used, which is turn is preventing the government from earning any revenue through taxes, as has been found out by PPCM during its visits to the market.
Although the government's initiative to end corruption and drug men ace is laudable, the prices of items being sold in Manipur are vastly different from that of neighboring states.
There is confusion on who is supposed to monitor all these or who will address all related grievances.
Thus, the people, especially the daily wage earners, are suffering greatly.
Hence, Jayanta urged the government to take up strict measures including issuing instructions to agents concerned to look into the matter.
He then informed that PPCM will continue monitoring the markets and the shops concerned and as such, sought support from the shop owners and the government.
