Imphal, November 23 2021:
Naga Women's Union (NWU) has denounced the aggressive defensive posture of the 42 Assam Rifles as indicated in its missive to Kamjong DC and SP on November 19 .
In a release, NWU president Asha Wungnam and general secretary YK Generous Thangal urged the chief minister and home minister of the state to ensure such orders are reviewed, for the safety and security of innocent unarmed citizens including women.
"We demand for our right to peace and security and an end to armed violence," the release said.
It further informed that the order is said to have become effective in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts from 6 pm of November 20 .
The populace including women and children in the state have been suffering for decades under Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
It is therefore, most unfortunate that the letter is almost a declaration of war and armed offensive against innocent civilians of the areas mentioned, the release contended, while raising concerns over the recent unfortunate civilian deaths and armed ambush in Churachandpur district.
It is of great concern that the AR is trying to curtail the democratic freedom of movement and threaten the peaceful situation in the district, the release added.
