Imphal, May 13 2023:
Imphal East district mag-istrate Khumanthem Diana Devi has appealed to all the people of Manipur, particularly Imphal East denizens, not to venture out of their respective houses during the curfew period to avoid any untoward incident and confron-tation with the security forces deployed for the safety and se-curity of the public.
In a public appeal issued on Saturday, DM Diana cautioned that coming out from their re-spective houses during the cur-few hours not only creates risk for themselves from the security forces but also from the unwanted elements who are there to create tension and violence.
"It is, therefore, once again, with folded hands, requested to the general public to adhere to the curfew order issued by this office and not to venture out of houses during the curfew period," she said.
While pointing out that the unfortunate incident of May 3 has created fear, panic and distress to all the people of Manipur, she on behalf of the district administra-tion expressed deep condolences to the departed souls.
The admin-istration also shares grievances of the families whose member(s) have been injured during the course of violent protests and whose houses and properties have been burned down, it added.
The DM informed that the in-cident of May 3 and the following two-three days have rendered many homeless and nearly 12,000 people are in various relief camps operational in Imphal East dis-trict alone.
The district administration is leaving no stone unturned to maintain law and order by re-storing peace in the district and trying hard to secure the dis-trict with deployment of security forces including district police and CAPF in adequate numbers violence prone areas in consulta-tion with SP Imphal East, the DM conveyed while reasoning that relaxation of curfew for few hours is to enable the public purchase essential items including medi-cines and food supplies.
