Awareness prog on women's rights held

A legal awareness programme on the rights of women guaranteed by the Indian Constitution was conducted at Kiyam Wangmataba Youth Welfare association hall in Thoubal district on Saturday.
The programme jointly organised by Thoubal District Legal Services Authority and Kiyam Litanpok Legal Aid Clinic under the aegis of National Commission for Women was attended by Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thoubal Masana E Panmei, Thoubal Municipal Council ex-councillor Thingujam Sangita and Wangjing IRDSO chief functionary Nonibala Narengbam as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Masana Panmei informed that the legal awareness programme has been organised in connection with the International Women's Day which will be celebrated on March 8, under the instruction of the National Commission for Women.
Maintaining that Manipuri women play an important role in the society in every aspect but many of them are bereft of knowledge on their rights guaranteed by the Constitution of India, Masana appealed to the women folk to understand the fundamental rights given by the Constitution.
The programme was attended by advocate Brojendra Meishnam Luwang and advocate Lembisana Meidingu as resource persons.
