Imphal, February 04 2023:
Recalling that the BJP government in its election manifesto assured of reserving 33 per cent of the seats in Lok Sabha for women if elected to power in the 2014 elections, All Manipur Nupi Marup has said that the BJP government led by PM Modi has failed to translate into action its assurances given to women of the country even after nine years in power.
In a release, Nupi Marup secretary L Sumatibala said that the budget session of Parliament that began from January 31 is the 29th session conducted since Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister.
Political analysts clearly know that the statement given by President Droupadi Murmu in the parliament session is based on the report made by the government.
However, it is unfortunate that the President in her speech stated that the Women Reservation Bill will be tabled newly by amending the constitution in-spite of the BJP government's assurance of reserving 33 per cent of the seats in the Lok Sabha for women if they came to power in 2014.Former India President late Pranab Mukherjee, during the joint parliament session in 2014, had stated that reserving 33 seats in the Lok Sabha for women is the only means to uplift women and reduce crime against them, she recalled.
Sumatibala contended that the government is trying to suppress woman as PM Modi who continues to raise slogans of 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' did not bring up statement to pass Women Re*servation Bill in the recent budget session.
