Imphal, December 02 2022:
"The Historical Maps of Manipur: Treaties and Documents" authored by Kakchingtabam Gunachandra Sharma was released by Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) VC Prof N Rajmuhon Singh in a function held at Naorem Sanajaoba Public Library Hall, National Research Centre (NRC) building, Canchipur on Friday.
The function was presided over by NRC, Manipur president Thongam Ajit with Prof N Rajmuhon as chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Gunachandra regretted that even after different communities settling in Manipur have produced or published their own versions of the map of Manipur and creating confusion amongst the people, the state government does not have a clear-cut map of Manipur.
He continued that after merging with India, our forefathers had prepared an exact map of the state.
Collecting this and other 336 maps from British records/books which have been internationally recognised, he started a detailed research in 2014 and as such, published the book with the aim of helping the young generation of the state understand the exact map of Manipur.
DMU Political Science faculty member Dr Arambam Noni gave a detailed review of the book.
