Imphal, March 01 2023:
Highlighting the hardships faced by the people, especially in hill areas, due to the indefinite strike launched by health services doctors, Zeliangrong Baudi and Zeliangrong Youth Front have appealed to the state government to resolve the issue at the earliest in the larger interest of the common people.
In a joint statement, the two bodies informed that the indefinite strike has seriously affected the economically distressed hills people especially in the absence of other alternative healthcare service centres in the hills districts unlike in Imphal and other valley districts where numerous private hospitals and diagnostic centres and healthcare centres and clinics are located and available round the clock.
There are reports of even birth and death certificate not being processed and issued since the hospitals and its related administrative units have been closed due to the strike, in the hills districts.
Though the demands raised by the doctors seem to be genuine and requires consideration by the government, it is also important to remember that human lives and their values are more precious and immeasurable than anything else, and they cannot be substituted or exchanged by anything in any manner, the joint statement pointed out.
It then urged the doctors to consider the suffering of the common people and to carry out their duties with professional ethics, responsibility and commitment in the service of humanity.
It is also appealed to the state government to sit across the table with the agitating doctors and explore every possible ways and means to fulfil their demands considering the suffering of the common people.
Delaying in resolving the issue may invite public uproar against the government as well as the agitating doctors as the life of common people cannot be reduced to valueless commodities.
Zeliangrong Baudi and Zeliangrong Youth Front, in the interest of the common people, strongly urge the government to consider the suffering of the common people and take up concrete measure to ease the suffering of the common people and bring an end to the indefinite strike at the earliest, the joint statement added.
