Imphal, May 24 2022:
Kangleipak Progressive Farmers' Association (KAPFA)has drawn the attention of the state government towards the need for providing necessary, aid to the farmers whose fields have been damaged due to heavy rains In a statement.
Association publicity secretary H Sadananda urged the government to formulate a long term policy to help alleviate the difficulties faced by the farmers.
The heavy rains have complete -ly destroyed the pre-Kharif crops.
Although the harvest period of Kharif crops coincides either with flooding or a drought, it would be wrong to ignore the matter as a natural disaster for most of the time, as the disaster is man-made.
One of the main factors is the clearance of trees or dense shrubberies along river banks, thereby allowing the river to breach its banks easily.
In addition, dumping of garbage in the rivers is another cause for flooding.
Thus, the government needs to look into the matter seriously and take up necessary measures, including assisting the farmers whose farmlands have been destroyed.
