Outreach prog on Amrit Mahotsav held

A one day integrated communication and outreach programme on Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was organised at Modern College, Porompat by Regional Outreach Bureau Imphal, ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Thursday.
A release by programme in-charge Thokchom Anthony said College principal Dr O Premila Chanu and ROB head of office Dr Aribam Ibomcha Sharma were the chief guest and the president respectively of the event.
Speaking as a resource person, associate professor of the College's History department Dr P Pravabati Devi elaborated about events of the first Nupi Lal 1904, second Nupi Lal 1939, Kuki Rebellion 1917 and the contributions of freedom fighters Hijam Irabot, Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu.
The contributions of Manipuri Prince Sana Chahi Ahum alias Narendrajit Singh, who joined the 34th Native Infantry to fight against the British during the Sepoy Mutiny, 1857 and the contributions and leadership of M Koireng Singh in providing daily ration to the INA at Moirang during the Second World War were also part of the discussion on the unsung heroes from Manipur in India's freedom struggle.
A quiz contest was also held and prizes along with certincates distributed.
Private Registered Troupe (PRT) of ROB, Imphal, M/s Achouba Artiste Association staged a drama on Nupi Lai, 1939 as part of the programme attended by teaching faculties, NSS officers and members of the National Service Scheme of Modern College, among others.
