later, a felicitation function was organised wherein national awardee Kh Ibempishak Devi of Kumbi Bazar, state awardee Longjam Pishak Singh, female drummer Laishram Mani Devi and Padmashree Hanjabam Radhe Sharmi were honoured with simple gifts.
In his speech, MLA Surjakumar said that filial piety is part of our culture.
However, the current generation and society seem to lack respect and love towards elders/ teachers, which is unfortunate.
This could be attributed to globalisation, media influences and other factors, he opined.
Urging all to love and respect the elders, the MLA said that we can learn many things from them, adding that other states have already taken up steps to bridge this generational gap and increase the bond between the young and the old.
He then said that he will take up the matter in the Assembly, to discern what steps could be taken up in the interests of the elderly in all the constituencies.
