Imphal, October 06 2022:
Informing that he is putting best efforts to upgrade Manipur University of Culture to a central university, for which he had already submitted a proposal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rajya Sabha MP and titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba has said that once it becomes a central university, MUC can not only facilitate cultural exchange among different communities of the state but also bring about cultural integration.
He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of 2nd Cultural Workers and Activists' Forum (CWAF) Festival held at Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory, Langthabal Kunja on Thursday.
The events of the festival will also be held in Kakching, Tamenglong and Ukhrul districts.
Addressing the gathering, Leishemba Sanajaoba said that the state is blessed with rich art & culture, sporting talents, natural resources and tourism potentials.
These resources need undivided attention and funding from government irrespective of the party in power in order to utilise the potentials for a better Manipur, he said.
The MP, however, lamented that only a meagre amount of fund is earmarked for art and culture in the state and acknowledged that those striving to preserve Manipuri art and culture are yearning to see increase in fund allocation.
While stating that present government is taking up some initiatives for artistes including introduction of CMAT and pension among others, he stressed though these welfare programmes are certain to fall short of the artistes' expectation all concerned need to have patience for better initiatives from the government.
Sanajaoba then expressed confidence that the CWAF festival will become a catalyst in bringing integration between hill and valley.
CWAF president Budha Chingtham presided over the function while Hiyanglam MLA Dr Y Radheshyam attended as guest of honour.
Khongjom Parva, Thang-Ta, Manipuri Classical Dance and Dhol Cholom performances were presented during the inaugural session.
