Classical Manipuri Dance Workshop concludes

The 15-day long Classical Manipuri Dance Workshop, which was organised bv North East Zonal Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Gov eminent of India in collaboration with Department of Art and Culture and Laishram Mani Memorial English Academy, Kongba from September 19, culminated at the complex of Huyel Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association, Irilbung on Sunday.
The valedictory function was attended by Manipur State Kala Akademi secretary L Kishworjit Singh as chief guest, NEZCC member Saratchand Thiyam as guest of honour and Laishram Mani Memorial English Academy principal L Jotin as president.
Speaking at the closing function, Art and Culture deputy director Dharmadas Sharma informed that workshop was organised under a scheme of the Zonal Centre to allow the students to learn about Manipuri classical dance.
In his speech, Saratchand Thiyam said that the conduct of such workshops will help in preservation of the state's art and culture.
He then stressed the need of holding similar programmes in the future for enriching Manipur s unique identity and culture amid globalization.
L Kishworjit Singh emphasised on the need to reestablish the status of our rich cultural heritage, adding that it is important to protect the cultural identity amidst the ever growing changes in the society.
The workshop will help in instilling this vision among the younger generations, he asserted.
Meanwhile, L Jotin appreciated NEZCC and the Art and Culture department for organising the workshop, while stating that the future of cultural wealth of the state depends on the young students.
In all, 15 students of the Academy attended the workshop, wherein B Sanjita Devi, Chingangbam Thajamanbi Devi and Nameirakpam Supriya taught about the liner aspects of Manipuri classical dance as experts.
The closing function was coordinated by Ranjit Chingtham and the audience was enthralled with Challa, Harihara and Dashavatar performances.
