Senapati, March 03 2023:
Chaonamai (Thingba Khullen) village in Senapati district celebrated its Tai-Nii or Tai-Thounii (seed-sowing) festival on March 1 and 2.An annual event practised since time immemorial, the Tai-Thounii was celebrated by the villagers with great pomp and gaiety, hoping that this year brings more fulfilment and achievements to everyone in the village.
The villagers marked the event with almost all the rituals performed by their ancestors.
As part of the tradition, relatives showered their newly-married daughters/sisters (irrespective of those married within or in far-flung areas) with traditional and modern gifts, ranging from paddy rice, kitchen items, traditional wears, furniture, and other household items.
During the festival, four women from the village, who are married to neighbouring villages/tribes like Purul, Lakhamai and Sajouba (Mao), were honoured with the usual traditions.
Among the many gifts, family, friends and relatives from the village gave them about 170 tins each of rice (average), over 100 kitchen items, furniture, traditional/modern wears, to-do (traditional tiffin box), and sou-sao (bunch of raw meat).
The villagers bade them farewell wishing the best of luck in all their endeavours in life.
