Pilot project launched to check spread of TB

With an aim to reduce TB burden by 2025, five years ahead of the Sustainable Development Goals considering the emergency-like situation in the country, the Union government has launched the 'TB Preventive Therapy Through Tele-consultation' as a pilot project in Bishnupur district.
The pilot project has been launched in two places of the country including Bishnupur district, the other one being Sahibganj district in Jharkhand.
TB Preventive Therapy Through Tele-consultation started at Bishnupur district TB centre on Wednesday.
The launch function of the pilot project was attended by Bishnupur CMO Dr L Raichandra Singh, district TB officer Dr S Brojen Singh, WHO Manipur consultant Dr Ng Robin Singh and staff of Bishnupur District TB Office.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr S Brojen informed that as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's effort to eliminate TB in the country, Sahibganj district of Bihar and Bishnupur district of Manipur have been selected for implementing the the pilot project, under which all the family members of a TB patient will be provided TB medication for 6 months unlike the earlier procedure of administering medicine only to the patient, as a means to prevent spread of the disease among the family members.
He said that there are around 10 patients in Bishnupur district suffering from TB and we all should work together to make Bishnupur district and the state free from TB by supporting the initiative of the government.
While informing that door to door delivery of TB medicines would be taken up to make Bishnupur district free from TB, Dr Brojen appealed to all those suspicious of contracting the disease to visit the nearest heath centre and get tested for TB .
