Imphal, December 25 2021:
Increasing the forest cover and improving the environmental condition can help improve human health, said retired Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Mohendra Pratap.
Attending as resource person at a one-day awareness programme on wildlife protection organised by Shaheed Madhumangol Foundation at Khoupum valley in Noney district on Saturday, Mohendra Pratap said that there are around 18 lakhs living species in the world and nearly 10,000 species become extinct every year due to human activities.
Once these living species go extinct, human being cannot survive alone and the people should keep this in mind, he cautioned.
Further pointing out that human being is considered as the guardian of the world and stressing that they should work and act towards conserving the natural resources including the other living beings for a better and safer world, he also reminded all concerned that deforestation and setting wildfire for some benefits cause more harm than good.
As one can live a healthy life as long as the environment stays healthy and the natural ecosystem is kept intact, human being should stop deforestation, hunting and other activities, which have adverse impact on the wildlife and natural ecosystem, he said.
Khoupum valley village authority chairman Ludong, Shaheed Madhumangol Foundation vice-president Balkrishna and member Pramodon attended the awareness programme.
The Foundation also donated Rs 10,000 for repair works of the shrine of Tingkao Ragwang Kalumkai on the occasion.
