DM Kakching declares containment measures

Following the reports of African Swine Fever (ASF), District Magistrate Kakching, Somorjit Salam, IAS, has declared certain containment measures in the district under Section 6 & 7 of the "Prevention & Control of Infection and Contagious Diseases in Animal Act, 2009" .
In a release issued today, DM Kakching informed that the order was issued following reports that a carcass of a dead pig was found thrown in Kakching-Sekmai river near Kha Manipur College this morning.
"Under the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009, whoever places or causes or permits to be placed in any Rivers, Lakes, Canals or any other water body, the carcass or any part of the carcass of any animal which at the time of its death was known to be infected, shall be guilty of an offence and, on conviction, be punished with imprisonment or fine", it added.
The DM further caution that any person found to be carrying out such improper disposal shall be dealt and punished as per law.
Moreover, Kakching Municipal Council caretaker chairperson Naorem Sanjitkumar Singh has expressed his concern over the disposal of animal carcasses in Sengmai river and warned of legal actions against anyone found involved in such activities.
Addressing a press conference held at Kakching Municipal Council office, Naorem Sanjitkumar stated that amid the recent surge in COVID-19 infections and reports of African Swine Fever,, such an irresponsible act of throwing animal carcasses in the river should be condemned by all.
He also announced a reward of Rs 5000 for information regarding the irresponsible disposal of pig carcass in Sengmai river.
It may be mentioned that District Administration Kakching in association with Kakching Municipal Council, JNGVO, AKSU, KKCL and other CSOs also carried out a rally in January 2021 to spread the message of "Save Sengmai River" .
