Imphal, May 29 2022:
While stating that farmers have great role to play in saving the ever-shrinking paddy fields of the state, Kshetrigao MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan has appealed to farmers to shoulder their responsibility in effective implementation of Manipur Conservation of Paddy & Wetland Act.
The MLA made this appeal during the first phase of discussion on welfare programmes for farmers taken up as part of his mission to bring a change in Kshetrigao AC.
Farmers of Gurapat and Yaralpat Loukol took part in the discussion held at his residence Sunday.
The discussion which was held under the banner, 'Kshetrigao Farmers' Meet-2022' mainly dwelt on enhancing crop yield and on mitigating problems faced by farmers in carrying out farm activities.
Participants stressed on the need for bringing green revolution in Kshetrigao AC with multiple cropping instead of single paddy plantation to enhance economy of the farmers.
Taking part in the discussion, Noorul Hassan said that purchase of paddy fields in Kshetrigao AC by some wealthy people and converting paddy fields into farmhouses and others indeed underscores ineffective implementation of Manipur Conservation of Paddy & Wetland Act.
He then appealed to farmers of the constituency to fight against non-agricultural activities on the paddy fields.
He also said that a pilot project for three farmlands in Kshetrigao AC namely Chanam, Gurapat and Yaralpat Loukol will be taken up soon and people will witness fruition of the project by the year 2024 and such projects will be taken up in other Loukol of the constituency in phased manner.
