Rich tributes paid to Irabot; memorial award announced

Irawat Celebration Committee observed the 71st death anniversary of Jana Neta Hijam Irawat as 'State Mourn Day' at Irawat Bhawan, here, on Monday.
Paying floral tributes to the photo of Irawat marked the observance attended by state executive members of MSC/CPI and members of the party.
Speaking on the occasion, MSC/CPI state secretary L Thoiren urged the people to bring forth the idea of egalitarian society advocated by Irawat, who breathed his last on September 26, 1951.In order to spread the idea and ideology of Irawat based on socialism, CPI organised the month-long observance of Irawat, he said.
Joint Students' Coordination Committee (JSCC), a body formed by AMSU, MSF, KSA and SUK also observed the death anniversary of Hijam Irabot at KSA office, Khoyathong, here while Lamyanba Irabot Ningsing Thouram Observation Committee (LINTOC) under the supervision of Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) organised a public discussion and offered floral tributes to Irabot at PPCM's Wahengbam Leikai office, here.
The tribute event was attended by PPCM convenor Maibam Bisheshwor, LINTOC convenor Konthoujam Thoiba Meetei and co-convenor Khunjamayum Gopen Luwang as presidium members, while IPSA secretary W Guneshwor and Irabot Foundation Manipur consultant K Gokulchandra were the resource persons.
During the observance, Maibam Bisheshwor said that Irabot was not a CPI but a true leader of the people who sacrificed his life and worked for unity.
He informed that PPCM and LINTOC will jointly observe the birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot on Friday at Shree Shree Bal Mukanda Music Collge, Palace Compound.
Jananeta Irawat Memorial Trust, Nambol observed the death anniversary of Irawat at the statue of Irawat installed at Nambol and it was attended by its president Mongjam Brajakeshore Singh, founder president Tekcham Ibochou and founder secretary Okram Ibotombi as presidium members as Irabot Memorial Trust observed the death anniversary at memorial site of Jananeta Hijam Irabot located at Keibi Manaching.
Ningthoujam Moirangningthou, who took part in farmers' movement launched under the leadership of Hijam Irabot, led in paying floral tributes to the memorial site.
On the other hand, Manipur State Council/All India Youth Federation (MCS/AIYF) and Blood Transfusion Unit, JNIMS jointly organised a blood donation camp at JNIMS, Porompat as a part of the month-long birth anniversary observance of Hijam Irabot.
The blood donation camp was attended by JNIMS Blood Bank Transfusion unit in-charge Dr Konsam Surjit Singh and MSC/AIYF president M Somorjit among others.
In all, 28 members of AIYF donated their blood during the camp.
United Clubs' Organisation, Bishnupur, which is a unit of AMUCO, along with AMAWOVA, Anti-Drug Campaign Bishnupur District, MPAL, Maibam Chingmang Welfare Youth Club, Ichum Kom Keirap Youth Welfare Club, Kabowakching Youth Welfare Organisation, Heinoubok Young Development Club and Sanjenpok United Welfare Club Irengbam Awang Leikai organised mass tree plantation cum social service camp to commemorate the death anniversary.
Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) secretary general Franky Ningombam, in a statement, informed that an on-the-spot painting and an essay writing competition on the topic 'Eikhoigi Khunnaida Lamyanba Hijam Irawat Ki Thoudang' was organised in three categories on Sunday.
In all, 2,051 students participated in the competition, the winners of which be announced on September 28 and prizes distributed on September 30.Meanwhile, Irawat Celebration Committee (ICC), Manipur has announced that 'Irawat Memorial Award' will be presented to Potshangbam Sonamani.
The award includes a cash incentive of Rs 20,000, memento and shawl.
The committee also announced conferment of Thokchom Achouba Ningshing Integrity Award to Wungnaoshang Ashang Kasar, Thiyam Meghachandra Journalist Award to Huiyen Lanpao editor Maibam Dhanabir Meetei, Nongthombam Iboton Award to Taothong Apheiba Aided Primary School headmistress Lourembam Ibecha Devi, Saknairaba Leelaroi Award to Sorokhaibam Robindro Singh, Hijam Achou Khutheiba Sinmee Award to Thingujam Ibohanbi of Thoubal Okram and Khundrakpam Mani Driver Award to Thangjam Chandra Kumar Meitei of Salungpham.
The awards include Rs 10,000 in cash, memento and shawl.
The awards will be handed over on September 30 at Shumang Leela Shanglen.
