Kuki bodies plant trees at Thangjing hills

With the aim of regenerating forest cover of the Thangting (Thangjing) hill ranges, Churachandpur units of Kuki Inpi, Kuki Chiefs' Association (KCA) and Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) jointly carried out a mass tree plantation on the hilltop and its surrounding areas on Tuesday.
Thousands of people, old and young, turned up and participated in the mass tree plantation drive under the theme, "Restoration of Thangting Hills" .
Earlier, those participating in the plantation drive were flagged off by KCA president Letkam from the Kuki Inpi office complex.
The participants, divided into four groups, spread put in the hill ranges and planted various types of saplings numbering over 10,000 provided by the DFO Churachandpur.
KSO Churachandpur spokesperson, NJ Haokip stated that the hill range has a great historical significance for the tribals inhabiting Churachandpur district and it is one of their places of worship in the days of yore and today its importance has been protected as sacred.
The drive came close on the heels of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) conducting a plantation drive where if claimed that 1000 saplings were planted.
