Imphal, May 11 2023:
Amid the consistent onslaughts by a Kuki militant group under Suspension of Op-eration (500) agreement, two residents of Pukhao Shantipur village armed with two double barrel rifles are defending the village from well-armed cadres of Kuki militants.
According to a local, cadres of the Kuki outfit entered the village on Wednesday around 4 am and opened fire on one Sagolsem Ranjit, who was feed-ing his pigs.
Luckily, he did not receive any injury but his house was damaged in the attack.
Fol-lowing the incident, women and children fled the village while the youths are staying back guarding their village from the Kuki militants.
The youth have only two dou-ble barrel guns to defend the village from the militants armed with sophisticated weapons.
Considering the odds the village youths are facing, the residents are worried that the Kuki mili-tants will take over their village once the youths retreat, the villager said while seeking help from the government as well as the people of the state.
He further said that due to generous donations they have food stock enough to last for many days.
However, what they need at this hour is ei-ther assistance from security forces or licensed ammunition for the two double barrel guns.
He also urged the government to provide them firearms if it cannot deploy security forces in the area.
