PV Sanjay named SC judge, Muralidaran HC acting CJ

Former chief justice of the High Court of Manipur Justice PV Sanjay Kumar was among five judges of Supreme Court appointed on Saturday with the Centre clearing their names, which were recommended by the collegium on December 13 last year.
At the same time, the Central Government has notified the appointment of Justice MV Muralidaran, senior most puisne Judge, as the acting chief justice of Manipur High Court with effect from the date Justice PV Sanjay Kumar relinquishes the charge as Chief Justice of the High Court consequent upon his appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court.
On the other hand, a farewell programme for former District and Sessions Judge Imphal West Aribam Guneshwar Sharma, who has been appointed as justice of the High Court of Manipur, was held at Cheirap Court Complex, Imphal on Saturday.
District and Sessions Judge, Imphal East RK Memcha, special public prosecutor & former president of All Manipur Bar Association Nilachandra, and advocates & staff of Cheirap Court Complex attended the programme.
Acting chief justice MV Muralidaran and justice Aribam Guneshwar Sharma will take oath on Monday.
Justice PV Sanjay Kumar assumed the office as chief justice of High Court of Manipur on February 14, 2021.After his early education and graduation from Hyderabad, Kumar went on to get his law degree from Delhi University in 1988 and enrolled in the Bar Council the same year.
He served as the government pleader in the Andhra Pradesh High Court between 2000 and 2003 and was elevated as additional judge of Telangana High Court in 2008.He has earlier served as the judge of Punjab and Haryana High Courts.
