Institutions, bodies celebrate International Women's Day

Observing that women in the state are playing a major role in the society right from household chores to social activism, Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) former chairperson Dr Binota Meinam has called upon the women folks to display their capabilities and show to the society that they are not inferior to their male counterpart in any manner.
She made the remark on the occasion of International Women's Day celebration organised under the theme "DigitAll: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality" by Women's Forum, Oriental College (Autonomous), Takyel at the conference hall of the college here on Monday.
College principal Dr S Ranjit and Women's Forum convenor Dr S Sanayaima attended the celebration as chief guest and president respectively while Dr Binota Meinam and Oriental College, department of mathematics former head E Amrabati were guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Binota elaborated on several issues faced by women as well as crucial roles played by women in a family and the society.
She compared women with Hindu Goddess Kali, who has 18 hands.
She said that professional women also face various pressures while pursuing research works and projects with many of them giving up midway due to such pressures.
However, women need to face all such pressures and issues with a challenge and rise at par with their male counterparts.
She, however, hailed women entrepreneurs, who defy all odds to make their place in the society and urged institutions to seek support from funding agencies for taking up women empowerment activities.
Dr S Sanayaima said that women are less tech-savvy when it comes to modern technologies including information technologies and internet.
She stressed the need for concerted efforts to take maximum benefits of modern technologies to empower women.
Six retired women heads of departments were also honoured on the occasion, which was participated by teachers and students of the college.
Meanwhile, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Chandel in collaboration with district administration, Chandel; Centre for Women and Girls, One Stop Centre, Chandel; Nehru Yuva Kendra, Chandel; District Protection Officer - ICDS, Chandel; and Piramal Foundation celebrated International Women Day under the theme "DigitAll: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality" as part of Integrated Delivery of Legal Services (IDLS-DISHA Schemes) at the multipurpose hall of Mini Secretariat Complex, Chandel district on Monday.
During the event, DLSA Chandel retainer lawyer Jacky Lucy spoke on 'Tele Law Legal Services' explaining the benefits of scheme.
She highlighted easy availability of the Tele Law app on various platforms for both Android and IOS users and how it can help a beneficiary to avail free legal aid and services.
A felicitation session under the theme - "Breaking the Barriers" for women leaders of various organisations, CSOs, women officers of government departments and police department was also conducted as part of the programme.
Later, DC (Chandel) Mayanglambam Rajkumar appreciated the achievements of women leaders and members of various organisations in the district.
He talked on the importance of numerous innovations and technologies to bring about absolute gender equality in today's generation, based on the main theme of the programme, which refers to gender equality for all through innovation and technology.
The programme was participated by women leaders, officers, staff of district administration, women police and executive members of local CSOs and organisations from both Chandel and Tengnoupal districts.
On the other hand, DLSA, Tamenglong in collaboration with National Commission for Women under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) organised a one-day legal awareness programme as part of International Women's Week on March 9 at Charoi Chakoklong, Tupul Bazar, community hall in Noney district.
About 65 participants including president, secretary and members of Charoi Chakotlong Tupul 2 Women Society and students among others attended the programme.
Advocate B Supriya spoke on 'Marriage, Divorce, Maintenance Laws, Women's Right to Property, Domestic Violence, Dowry Death, Outraging Modesty of Women, Kidnapping, Abduction, Rape and Sexual Assault, POCSO Act'.
Advocate I Lenibala spoke on 'Labour Laws, Prevention of Sexual Harassment at work place, Maternity Benefit Act, Factories Act, Equal Remuneration Act, Women and Reproductive Health Rights, Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act' .
