Removal of signboards infuriates Thonglang Atongba VA

Thonglang Atongba Village Authority, Kangpokpi district has raised objection to a request made by some Nepali leaders to the district administration to remove signboards-within the village's jurisdiction.
In a release, Thonglang Atongba Village Authority said that it "is astounded to learn that some Nepali leaders have requested the district administration to remove the signboards of our forefathers' historical monuments which are well within our village jurisdiction" .
"Every monument that stands within our village jurisdiction has great historical attachment to us and they are our identity and our pride.
It is a hereditary responsibility to protect and preserve the monuments since our forefathers' time.
Apart from putting up the name plates (signboards), more prominent activities in order to protect and preserve those legendary monuments are in the pipeline," the village authority continued.
It went on, "The monuments are many centuries old and was erected by superhuman legends and deities of the ancient Ihonglang village.
As a matter of fact, the Nepalese who have been allowed to settle by paying Rampon (customary land tax) have destroyed some of the priceless ancient monuments in the course of farming activities.
Such callous act Of disrespect to the ancient monuments is nothing but a direct challenge to the unquestionable owner ship of the land" .
According to the release, the complainants Kherga Tamang, Sagar Gewali and Man Kumar Yogi are no more residents of Thonglang area but are in fact the instigators and trouble creators who have been misleading the peace loving common people of the Thonglang and its adjoining areas.
It also mentioned an order issued by the Manipur High Court that nullified the appointment of Gaon Bura (GB)/chairman and the Kangpokpi deputy commissioner's order cancelling the appointment of Goan Bura/chairman of Irang Part-1 .
The release then cautioned the district administration against paying attention to such cases that can disturb peace in the area.
