Imphal, September 25 2021:
The armed United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) has clarified that one Thangkholen Baite alias Thangbem, s/o (L) Hemkhojam Baite of Moreh Zioh Veng, who was arrested on September 23 from Leimakhong area and accused of involvement in the killing of NCP former vice president Chungsei Haokip in 2010, has no connection whatsoever with the outfit.
While dismissing as baseless contention of the police that Thangkholen Baite is a UKLF cadre, the outfit's joint secretary T James asserted that thangkholen Baite was never enlisted as its cadre.
The organisation knew him only in 2016 at Moreh when he approached to become a sympathiser and not as a cadre.
But, later on, in 2017 he joined Chin-Kuki Liberation Organisation/Chin-Kuki Liberation Army (Non-SoO) group, the secretary explained in a statement, adding: "Since then, the organisation had cut all ties with him after confirming his active membership to the non-SoO group CKLO/CKLA".
UKLF also clarified that it was never involved in the murder of Chungsei Haokip in 2010, and had no connection in his killing or with Thangkholen.
The secretary further stated that dragging UKLF into the case is an attempt to tarnish the image of the organisation and appealed everyone not to be swayed by such propaganda against the UKLF.
