Ukhrul, September 23 2022:
At least five main paddy fields along river banks in northern Ukhrul's Chingjaroi Khullen village were destroyed by flash flood triggered by torrential rainfall on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
Reports said that the affected agricultural areas included Kazankhra, Vongze, Alinroh, Taropula and others.
The flood has caused extensive damages to standing paddy crops and many fishery ponds/farms in the areas close to Rangazak, Taropukhra and Kazankhra Rivers.
Villagers said that there was heavy rainfall on the intervening night of Thursday arid Friday, which swelled the river, triggering massive havoc on the paddy fields located along the river banks.
Several video clips shared by the villagers showed river waters crashing through the fields and sweeping standing paddy plants from the fields.
Farmers were awaiting harvest of their hard labour which was expected by October or November.
However, the flash flood has left the farmers in a miserable situation.
The flash flood also caused some damages to the on-going construction of a pump reservoir tank being taken up in the village as part of water augmentation scheme under NDB, villagers mentioned.
Actual extent of the damages could not be known immediately.
