Imphal, March 31 2023:
Cooperative activist Khwairakpam Tomba has appealed to authority concerned to conduct pending election of the Manipur State Cooperative Union at the earliest in a free and fair manner.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Friday, Tomba said that Manipur State Cooperative Union is a body run by affiliated cooperative societies but it has been nearly 10 years since the Union election has not been conducted.
Amidst this situation, chief executive officer (CEO) of Manipur State Cooperative Union issued a series of notifications recently while undermining the election rule which has created confusion among cooperative societies affiliated to the union, he said and questioned whether the CEO is working only in the interest of select cooperative societies.
According to Tomba, Returning Officer for election of the union had already been appointed but the RO is yet to announce the election schedule.
He also said that voters' list for the union election is yet to be prepared which will only deter conduct of the pending elections.
He then appealed to authority concerned to conduct election of the union at the earliest without any favouritism or corruption.
