Excise Dept to launch crackdown on liquor sale

Imphal, December 23 2021:
Deputy commissioner of excise B John Tlangtinkhuma has instructed additional commissioner and superintendent of excise, enforcement team and officers in-charge of all excise stations in the state to conduct frequent and regular raids and seize illicit intoxicants including IMFL, beer, country liquor, etc, in coordination with officials concerned as per rules with immediate effect and until further notice.
The order was issued to ensure smooth conduct of the upcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly elections, 2022 .
As per an office memorandum issued by the deputy commissioner, reports haye been received from reliable sources that there have been illegal sale of illicit liquor in some parts of the state by some vested individuals / unauthorised vendors and alleged consumption of these intoxicants or other substances causing unwanted crimes, atrocities, harassment, etc, to the public more particularly the women, children and weaker sections of the society.
It also said that there is urgent requirement for conducting intensive vigil over the inter-state movements of vehicles at Excise and Border Check posts by excise enforcement team and immediate action against sale/production of these illicit liquors by officers-in-charge concerned of nil 39 excise stations of the state under the supervision of additional commissioner and superintendent of excise under the overall supervision of the commissioner of excise.
The order also sought cooperation and assistance or deputy commissioners/superintendents of police for smooth conduct of frequent raids and seizures of illicit liquor in view of the acute shortage of manpower, lack of required infrastructure, vehicles and other logistic support.
