KYU celebrates Golden Jubilee

Kangpokpi, March 13 2023:
Kangpokpi Youth Union (KYU), formerly known as Kangpokpi Youth Club, celebrated its Golden Jubilee at Brig M Thomas ground in Kangpokpi town on Monday.
The noon session of the celebration was attended by MP Dr Lorho S Pfoze as chief guest and textiles minister Nemcha Kipgen as president while Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen and Saikul MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangshing were guests of honour.
A 13 feet high monolith donated by Jangboi Kipgen to commemorate the 50 years of KYU was unveiled by KYC/KYU founding president Haokholal Hangshing after MP Dr Lorho hoisted the KYU and golden jubilee flag.
The monolith was ded icated by Rev K Hangshing, chairman, Kangpokpi Town Churches Fellowship in the presence of all dignitaries.
A traditional gong called Dahpi was also beaten 50 times by the dignitaries and committee chairman and KYU president to commemorate the jubilee.
In the year 1976, Brigadier M Thomas inaugurated a standard size playground in Kangpokpi town and dedicated it to the Kangpokpi Youth Club and later the ground was christened as Brig M Thomas ground.
In his speech, Dr Lorho S Pfoze acknowledged the immense contribution made by Kangpokpi Youth Union for a better Manipur and said that Kangpokpi is a blessed town where the youth played their roles effectively for the welfare of the town.
He also encouraged youth of Kang pokpi town to sow more seeds of love, unity, harmony and development.
Local MLA Nemcha Kipgen also acknowledged the selfless service of KYU during the Covid pandemic and praised the union for their selfless and fearless service in saving thousands, of lives in the district.
She also encouraged local youth to help in the government's 'War on Drugs' campaign.
A cultural extravaganza, appreciation, presentations, celebration and a jubilee song sung by 140 members of Jubilee Choir marked the noon session.
The evening session was attended by MAHUD minister Y Khemchand Singh as chief guest while Col Punit Atwal of 22 Assam Rifles and former minister Thangminlen Kipgen were present as guest of honour and special guest respectively.
The session was marked by Mr & Miss Kanggui contest and various entertainment programmes.
Thanglenhao Touthang of Kangpokpi Sipinthei Veng (Ward No.7) bagged the Mr Kanggui 2023 title while Chinneimoi Khongsai of Kangpokpi Nanglhun Veng (Ward No 15) was crowned Miss Kanggui 2023 .
