MLA Noorul calls of preservation art & culture

Kshetrigao AC MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan has stated that preservation of the state1 s rich art and culture is our birth right.
He was speaking as chief guest of the 40th anniversary of Meitei Indigenous Thang-Ta and Cultural Institute (MITACHI) held at its hall in Kongba Kshetri Leikai on Wednesday.
Presided over by MITACHI head instructor Khundrakpam Surchandra Meetei, the anniversary function was attended by social and cultural activist Rakesh Naorem, social worker Heirom Suresh and AIR, Imphal ex-announcer KK Wahengbam as guests of honour.
In his speech, MLA Noorul said that Manipur is proud of its 2000-year-old history and its rich art and cultural heritage are known the world over.
As such, it is the responsibility of each one of us to preserve our rich customs, traditions and art and culture, one of which is the traditional martial art form, Thang-Ta.
This art form is now taught in schools, colleges as well as at university level, he said, while lauding the efforts taken up by MITACHI till date.
The MLA then stressed that there is need for sincere cooperation between local bodies and MLAs if change is to be ushered in.
Mere lip service will not bring any advantages, he remarked, and emphasised the need for all communities to unite as one entity so as to ensure a peaceful and harmonious society.
As part of the function, certificates were presented to students of MITACHI who participated in Khelo India competitions.
