Thoubal, May 29 2022:
Kekru Ideal Progressive Committee (KIPC), an apex body of Kekru village, with the support of social worker Soraisham Suresh alias Boy of Yairipok Kekru on Sunday repaired the potholes on the road that leads to Nongpok Tarang Saraba/Gwarok Mahadev shrine at Gwarok hill under Wangkhem assembly constituency.
The Committee also announced ban on operation of heavy vehicles on the said road.
Speaking to media persons in connection with repairing of the road, KIPC secretary Laishram Somorendro informed that frequent movement of loaded heavy vehicles on the said road, despite restriction on the inter village road (IVR), has led to deterioration of the already pathetic condition of the road.
Noting that people coming for pilgrimage to the shrine face difficulties due to bad condition of the road, the secretary also recounted that the road stretch was repaired about 15 years ago and since then no repair work has been taken up.
Somorendro also declared that from Sunday onwards no heavy vehicle loaded with sand & stone and timber will be allowed to ply through the road from Khoirom, Kekru and Pechi village and anyone found dumping garbage from near Kekru Thingel Chingmei to the shrine will be fined Rs 10,000 by the Committee along with initiating legal action.
He also appealed to Yairipok Police and Forest Department to look into the issue, while urging authority concerned and local MLA to repair the road at the earliest.
