Emphasising on the need for the public to have civic sense so as to bring about a good society, MAHUD minister Y Khemchand has appealed to the people of his constituency to refrain from dumping solid wastes in the roadside drainage to keep the drains clean and unclogged.
Inspecting a drain cleaning programme taken up on Monday to address the problem of waterlogging in areas from Singjamei to Kakwa and Naorem Leikai, Khemchand noted that the localities face the problem of waterlogging even when there is slight rainfall, The main reason behind this is clogged drainage due to dumping of waste materials, especially solid wastes.
So, the public need to stop such irresponsible practices.
He also urged the public to stop piling up construction materials on the roadside as such practices lead to clogging of the drainage system.
Instead of just blaming the government for waterlogging, the public need to think about their irresponsible acts and do away with such habits, he said.
