Sitara Begum passes away, many condole

Many condoled the sudden demise of All Manipur Muslim Women Development Organisation president Sitara Begum.
In a statement, Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation secretary general Khut-lepham Wadiya recounted the contributions made by Sitara Begum for the welfare of the Meetei-Pnagal community and the society.
She then prayed for Sitara's soul to rest in peace and also shared the grief of the bereaved family.
Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) general secretary Ng Prabhabati also issued a condolence statement mourning the demise of the Lup s former vice president and founder member Aribam Sitara Begum.
It said that the Lup observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
Meanwhile, conduct of the last rites of Sitara Begum was attended by leaders and members of Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup Imphal East, Nongchup Imphal Palem Ima Apunba Nupi Lup, Apunba Nupi Lup Bishnupur, Thoubal Ima and Manipur Chanura Leishem Marup.
Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) also condoled the untimely demise of Meira Paibi leader from Meetei-Pangal community, Aribam Sitara Begum of Kshetrigao, Imphal East due to some health condition.
CADA also shared the grief and pain of the bereaved family.
In a statement, CADA recalled that Sitara Begum (62), who used to work on several social issues as one of the Meira Paibi leaders from among the Meetei Pangal community, began her schooling at Noor Ali LP School.
She also motivated many of her friends to attend school since her early childhood.
She passed class 10 examination under Assam Board from Wangkhei Girls' High School in 1970, and completed PUC from Modern College and BA from DM College under Guwahati University.
She was fluent in both Hindi and English.
During her career as social reformer, Sitara remained as vice-president of Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL), and participated in various movements on issues like ILPS, alcohol, drugs, AFSPA, discrimination, human rights violation and other social issues.
Moreover, she promoted handloom products of Meetei Pangal community by participating in several exhibitions, the statement said and described her demise as an irreparable loss for the society.
