Awareness prog on border trade, Act East Policy held

Indo-Myanmar Border Traders' Union, Manipur (IMBTU) organised a one-day awareness programme on 'Indo-Myanmar Trade and Act East Policy in ASEAN Countries' at the auditorium of Library and Information Centre, Kakching Phousupat Leikai on Friday.
Organised under the aegis of Directorate of Trade, Commerce and Industries, the programme was attended by Kakching Municipal Council chairperson Naorem Sanjitkumar as chief guest and Indo Myanmar Border Traders' Union president Watham Nabachandra as president.
Senior Citizens' Forum Kakching president and ex-minister Nongmaithem Nimai, Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association president Pukhrambam Chandrashekhar; Directorate of Trade, Commerce and Industries, Export and Import Cell OSD A Sadananda; State Bank of India-Regional Business Office (SBI-RBO) Imphal chief manager (Sales and Business Development) Mayanglambam Nimai were also present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjitkumar stressed the need on the part of the government to spec ify what items goods are allowed for inter border trade, especially considering Manipur's location along the Trans - ASEAN Highway and the frequent confiscation of goods by border security forces, citing illegality.
He then urged Traders/businesses to pay the different taxes and file the returns as well in time to ensure good government-public relationship.
He also advised businesses in Kakching Bazar area to get registered to Kakching Municipal Council and avail the benefits provided by the government while calling upon the local businesspersons to strive for becoming direct dealers so as to provide essential items/goods to the people at affordable prices.
During the awareness programme, various experts explained on how to avail PAN, IE�, role of GST, preparations of export/import documents, selection of export/import items, and how to obtain financial help, while also answering queries from the audience.
