Imphal, October 06 2022:
Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (CoHSEM) chairman Dr Ch Sarat has said that teachers involved in evaluation of answer papers for class X and class XII examinations have the responsibility to minimise instance of RTI petitions filed by students after declaration of results of the two state level examinations.
The CoHSEM chairman stated this during the opening function of a 3-day workshop on 'Technique of paper setting and evaluation', which is being organised by CoHSEM at Lamlong Higher Secondary School on Thursday.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Dr Ch Sarat informed that CoHSEM has been organising workshop on paper setting and evaluation techniques since September 12 in different districts after launch of the same in Imphal West district.
He said that workshop at Lamlong Higher Secondary School is being held for Imphal East district and it will be the last one to be conducted.
According to Dr Ch Sarat, teachers must have the quality to teach students effectively and the existing norms of question setting in board and council exams is that a question set by a teacher must be answerable easily by another teacher.
A question set by a teacher which could not be answered easily by another teacher is not a good question and the workshop is being organised to rectify this mistake, he said.
The CoHSEM chairman further said that teachers must thoroughly understand the 'Technique of paper setting and evaluation' booklet published by the council and they must also understand design of question paper and making of blue print.
Teachers should also understand the book thoroughly as a good question cannot be set without thorough understanding of the book, he said adding that questions for 100 marks have to be set for arts subjects and 70 marks for science subjects minus 30 marks for practical.
Deeply concerned over filing of RTI by students just after declaration of results of class X and class XII exams, the CoHSEM chairman said that carelessness of teachers involved in evaluation is the main reason behind filing of RTI applications by students and both the teachers involved and the council have to face guilt for the mistake.
The opening function of the workshop presided by Lamlong Higher Secondary School principal L Kamala Devi was also attended by senior lecturer (Hindi) Ng Tamphatombi of Lamlong Higher Secondary School as guest of honour.
Meanwhile, a similar workshop, which will go on for three days, was also opened at CC Higher Secondary School.
The opening function of the workshop was attended by CoHSEM secretary Ch Biren as chief guest, CC Higher Secondary School principal L Rita as president and CoHSEM examination controller A Sukumar as guest of honour.
Altogether 370 teachers are taking part in the workshop and 11 resource persons will deliberate on different topics.
