Poll violence: Rally protests killing of L Arun

Alleging that Leimapokpam Arun of Wangjing Hodamba, who succumbed to bullet injury on Saturday, was killed by Haobam Rajen and his son Rakesh of Wangjing Wangkhei, the JAC formed in connection with the killing took out a protest rally from Wangjing Hodamba to Wangjing Irawat Lamkhai and staged a sit-in protest at Anouba Keithel on Sunday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, a protestor identified as Tekcham ongbi Binasakhi recounted that Arun and his companions carried out campaigns in Wangjing-Wangkhei for peaceful conduct of election.
However, when they went to the residence of Haobam Rajen, he and his son Rakesh, who is IRB jawan, shot at them.
Arun suffered three bullet wounds and later succumbed to the injuries, she said.
Binasakhi asserted that the body will not be claimed until the culprits were arrested and punished accordingly.
Meanwhile, JAC co-convenor Tekcham Romenkanta informed that the JAC has adopted several resolutions including not to claim the lifeless body until the culprits were arrested, to banish the family of Rajen and Rakesh from Wangjing and demand compensation and government job to family of the deceased.
Romenkanta made it clear that the JAC will launch intense form of agitations along with the people if the demands were not met.
