Shumang Leela Festival : "Panthou Sanggai" by Lamjingba Artistes Assn wins Best Production

The results of competition in the Nupa (male) Shumang Leela category of the 51st All Manipur Shumang Leela Festival 2022-23, organised by Manipur State Kala Akademi were announced at Th Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound on Friday.
After a detailed analysis of the plays by a 5-member jury based on previously specified points, "Panthou Sanggai" of Lamjingba Artistes' Association was declared as the Best Production.
The play also won other awards including Best Director and Best Actor in Comic Role for the character of 'Ashuppa' by Khagembam Irabot, Best Actress by L Boy for the role of 'Panthoi', Best Supporting Actor by Chourajit for the role of 'Lakpa', Second Best Supporting Actress by Arapti Surendra for the role of 'Mitsna' and Second Best Script by Arunkumar Laishram.
"Aronba Wari" of Sangai Artistes' Association won Second Best Production, while "Lipun" of Peace Maker Artistes' Association won Third Best Production.
Sanaleipak Nachom Artistes' Association ("Panthou Mangol Khenjonglang") won Best Disciplined Team.
"Aronba Wari" (Sangai Artistes Association) won Best Script, while its director Iboyai-ma Khuman bagged Second Best Director, Ningombam Thenao (Music Direction) Best Music Director, singer Jamesh Heikrujam the Best Playback Singer (male voice), Kebi Moirangcha the Best Actor for the roles of 'Paikhomba' and 'Nongjumba', and Jagdish Hijam the Second Best Actress for the role of 'Sanahanbi'.
Y Arunkumar, who played the role of Phungreingam in "Lipun" (Peace Maker Artistes' Association) won Second Best Actor, S Ibohanbi the Second Best Actor for the role of 'Punshiba', Ramesh Huirem the Best Supporting Actress for the role of 'Chaningkhombi', Athokpam Santosh the Second Best Actor in Comic Role for the role of 'Ayangba', singer Likmabam Vicky the Second Best Playback Singer (female voice) and L Surchandra the Second Best Music Director.
The Best Playback Singer (female voice) was won by Kebisana Nepram for the play, "Washak Ama" (Iramdam Manipur Artistes' Association) and Best Lyricist by Ningomba Tomba for the song, 'Eigi Mitsna Nangbu' .
K Janeman won Second Best Playback Singer for the play, "Panthou Mangol Khenjonglang" (Sanaleipak Nachom Artistes' Association), while Ranjit Ningthouja won Second Best Lyricist for the song, 'Imitsina Ure Nangse' .
The Festival concluded on Thursday with the play, 'Washak Ama' presented by Iramdam Manipur Artistes' Association in the Nupa (male) Shumang Leela category.
In 'Washak Ama', Tangkhul maiden Philangam Zimik is in a relationship with Meetei boy Meiraba.
Both make an oath to each other which unfortunately is disrupted by fate.
Owing to circumstances and the will of the elders, Philangam marries Pungpha, leaving Meiraba heartbroken.
Although Philangam is initially indifferent to Pungpha, she slowly falls in love with him.
However, she is unable to move forward with the relationship because of the promise she made to Meiraba.
As such, she visits Meiraba and requests him to release her from their oath.
Written by Okram Kunjo, the play is directed by Geetchandra Chongtham, who also played the character of 'Shimreiyo Zimik' .
The other male characters were portrayed by Khekman Deban (Tomal), Tony Akoijam (Yaiphaba), Ratan Khekman (Meiraba), Sur Athokpam (Pungpha) and Apakpa (Anthony).
The female roles were played by Oinam Arun (Irangleima), Surchand (Tanoubi), Somorjit Moirang (Philangam Zimik) and Master Leishemba (Abemacha) .
The backstage artistes included Babumacha (male voice), Kebisana (female voice), Gandhi (Tabla), Momocha (Guitar), Tomba (Keyboard), Arun (Flute), Sougrakpam Arun (Music Direction), Biteshwar (Pad Drum) and lyricist Ningombam Tombi.
